Biography

Owen McAteer (born 1986) is a Northern Irish visual artist based in Madrid. As a generative artist and creative coder, his work revolves around algorithms and mathematics to discover the hidden beauty in numbers.

 

He graduated from Ulster University with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Multimedia Computer Art & Design. After working with digital design agencies in Dublin, London, and Madrid, he began his art practice. Using code as a medium, his work bridges the digital and physical worlds, revealing the universal language of mathematics in a visual and often interactive output. With a keen interest in digital and movement, he has been drawn toward kinetic electromechanical FlipDot displays and has been integrating them into his practice for several years.

 

His artistic career spans several years and includes exhibitions in London, New York, Miami, Germany, and Madrid. He has completed a residency in El Matadero, Madrid, and is an established ArtBlocks artist. He has also published articles on FlipDots and his art for Make:Magazine and HackSpace Mag.
