Encounters 2025 Explores Longevity Through the Lens of Art

Our collaborative art initiative returns to explore the dynamic interplay between creativity and technology.

Spanning audiovisual works, participatory installations and hybrid performances blending code and sonic ritual, the resulting program renews our commitment to art that embraces technology to bring the community’s questions and sensitivities to the forefront.

This experimental cultural initiative now in its third season brings together a powerful line-up of pioneers in generative and digital art: Maja Petrić, Operator, Sasha Stiles and Philipp Frank.
‘Ever After’ is a reflection on how creativity, code and ritual can help us design lives that grow, adapt and endure. Inspired by the rising pursuit of longevity and wellbeing, the programme turns to artists whose works invite transformation: evolving over time, responding to their environment, and creating space for collective engagement.

PRE-REGISTER
Since its debut in 2023, Encounters has attracted over one million visitors and contributing $1.5 million to support rainforest preservation. Celebrated digital artists such as Refik Anadol and Sougwen Chung have played instrumental roles in shaping its creative identity and global reputation.
Artists
Operator

Ania Catherine (b. 1990, US) and Dejha Ti (b. 1985, US) are an artist duo whose collaborative practice, Operator, develops critical and conceptual approaches to experience. With Ti’s background as a multimedia artist and HCI technologist, and Catherine’s as a choreographer and performance artist, they engineer medium-agnostic output, joining environments, technology, and the body. Their exploration into privacy began with their performance installation On View (2019), commissioned by SCAD Museum of Art, and continues with the Privacy Collection, a durational release of works exploring the tension between privacy and transparency in blockchain technology. For their most recent work Human Unreadable, they created an on-chain generative choreography method.

On August 9th at 6 PM and August 10th at 7 PM, at Scorpios Bodrum, Operator’s durational performance uses choreography to explore forgotten forms of entrainment and collective neural entrainment.

40 Choreographic unique digital artworks (NFT), each representing a precise moment in the 27-minute performance. Using Operator's custom notation system to show the choreography of dancer movements, breathing patterns and nervous system states. They connect to each other through the master system and create entrainment effects when viewed. Building on the Operator on-chain choreography system developed in 2023 for Human Unreadable.

Performance Operating System (1/1) Description: The smart contract container that owns and orchestrates all performance elements while referencing the 40 individual choreographic works. Contains the complete DNA of the performance - motion data, music scores, costume designs, video references, re staging rights, collective entrainment states, notation legend and live connections to all 40 unique choreographic works. It's not just instructions but the living system itself.

Maja Petrić

Lumen Prize-winning artist Petrić masterfully combines art, technology and real-time data to depict nature’s fragility. Her sculptural installation Specimens of Time: Hoh Rain Forest (2025) part of the Specimens of Time series, takes the form of a cube that pulses with light to channel live climate data. The dynamic work is designed to evoke the delicate balance of the rain forest’s vanishing ecosystem, transforming ephemeral environmental trends into a tangible visual experience. Reflecting the convergence of nature, data, and human experience, her work offers a lasting impression and a poignant reminder of the interconnected continuum we inhabit.

Specimens of Time: Mykonos is part of an ongoing series of generative light sculptures that bottle the atmosphere of pristine natural environments—preserving their presence as luminous artifacts for a time when they may no longer exist.

This outdoor sculpture responds to the shifting conditions of the Aegean—sunlight, wind, and environmental data—transforming these inputs into a constantly evolving field of light and reflection. During the day, lenticular lenses and mirrored surfaces fracture the sunlight into layered, refracted motion. As the wind moves and the data changes, the sculpture pulses, shifts, and breathes. After dark, generative lighting composition —linked to environmental metrics—animates the sculpture with quiet, living intensity.

Built on a custom base with an open scaffolding structure, Specimens of Time: Mykonos is not a depiction of nature, but a sensory imprint of it—a glowing memory rendered in form and light.

Phillipp Frank

Philipp Frank is a German light and land artist known for immersive projections on trees, rocks, and other natural surfaces. Featured globally, his work has been presented at international festivals and site-specific installations in various locations, including Hong Kong, France, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, and the UNESCO-recognised Geiranger Fjord site in Norway. With a background in media art and a deep sensitivity to the rhythms of nature, he creates contemplative experiences that blur the lines between technology, landscape and elemental presence. Through Frank’s art, light becomes a language, reconnecting viewers with the beauty, mystery, and interconnectedness of the natural world.
