Central to this show are Gao Xintong’s vivid portrayals inspired by Nuwa, a significant figure in Chinese mythology revered for her role in repairing the sky and crafting humanity. Through these artworks, Nuwa’s essence resonates, embodying a fusion of strength and femininity as she shapes both humanity and the world. This portrayal intertwines seamlessly with other universal narratives, drawing parallels between the crucifixion of Jesus, where hands serve as a pivotal subject, and the Greek myth of Laocoon, ultimately revealing the shared human inclination for myth-making across diverse cultures.

The exhibition also unveils a captivating series of abstract artworks that reimagine structured images sourced from the famous Chinese Dunhuang frescoes. These paintings, characterised by their fluid lines and dynamic play of light, encapsulate the imaginative essence of ancient murals. Gao Xintong’s masterful use of colour, drawn from the original palette of Dunhuang art, creates a compelling visual dialogue bridging the gap between history and contemporary expression. The spatial arrangements within these pieces echo the transcendental qualities inherent in ancient artworks, forging a timeless connection between past and present.
