Biography

Fabio Viale, (b. in Cuneo in 1975), uses a traditional sculptural mediums mainly focused on marble as a means of reflecting contemporary thought, behaviour and references to art history. With a predominant focus on Greco-Roman Sculpture and symbolism, Fabio Viale confronts the view by using these classical figures as a canvas for modern tattoo art as a way of contrasting and challenging historical narratives. The artist also explores the ‘visual dexterity’ of marble by engaging what could be described as three-dimensional 'trompe l'oeil' (three-dimensional illusion) utilising stone to portray the textures of everyday objects and materials such as styrofoam, paper and rubber. Viale currently lives and works in Turin, Italy.
