Biography

Bernardo Peruta (b. 1973, Bergamo, Italy) creates works on micro-perforated aluminium panels, built up through multiple layers of colour in mixed media. From the texture emerge suspended human figures, increasingly blurred, of indefinite identity and gender. For Peruta, the subject is merely a pretext: these presences become universal symbols of humanity, constantly evolving and shaped by time, emotions and society.

The artist does not seek to create a portrait, but a sensation: a state of meditation, a slowing down of time. Painted on a micro-perforated support, the image never reveals itself in full. The eye is called upon to work with its own imagination, to process what is not there. It is the viewer who completes what they see.

His technique blurs the boundaries between painting and sculpture, setting pictorial tradition in dialogue with industrial materials. The contrast between the painterly, chromatic base and the rigid structure of the aluminium generates an intense, material three-dimensionality, making each piece unique and impossible to replicate. The work shifts with the viewing angle and the fall of light, free from any single privileged viewpoint. Up close, it reveals the intricate pattern of the micro-perforated modules; from a distance, it transforms into a fluid, vibrating field. It stands as a metaphor for a reality that cannot be captured in a single frame, but changes with the eye of the beholder.

After an artistic education between Como and Bergamo, where he deepened his study of figurative painting, Peruta moved to Nice, France, in 2004, where he held his first solo exhibition. Returning to Italy in 2006, he has since taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions of contemporary art, including major shows in Milan, Parma and Verona and, abroad, in France, Germany, Belgium and New York.
