Ilhwa Kim | Growing Surfaces: London

2024年10月10日 - 10月23日
Making Seeing Equivalent to Touching:

The interplay and materiality of seeds on the canvas evokes a peculiar life presence, reminiscent of biological organisms that are still in growth. This interaction between the material elements and the essence of life creates an intriguing space on the surface of the artwork.   This active space stimulates our sensory surroundings - hands, feet, mouth, nose, ears and eyes as the work becomes palpable.

Adopting a synesthetic quality, the artworks permit the occurrence of seeing and touching to intertwine. Our instinctive survival mechanisms activate and recognise certain qualities—vitality, movement and development that resonate with biological life, blurring the boundaries between visual perception and tactile sensation.
