Krista KimTriptych, 2018UV print on Trulife Plexi, mounted on Dibond.
Krista Kim’s digital gradient works are meditative expressions of the intersection between art and technology, offering a Zen experience to counterbalance the negative effects of digital media on mental health. Inspired by her time living in Japan and the practice of meditation, Krista uses screens—often seen as sources of anxiety and overstimulation—to create serene, calming environments. These gradients are abstract reductions of color and light emitted from screens, designed to quiet the mind and foster inner peace.
Krista’s gradients are more than just visual meditations; they are symbols of the fluidity and constant transformation of our culture in the digital age, as outlined in her Techism manifesto. Through this philosophy, she believes that art, when paired with technology, can heal and recalibrate our mental states. Since 2012, Krista has been capturing digital images of LED lights and manipulating them with software to create these immersive pieces. Her work embodies a vision for a more harmonious coexistence with technology, transforming it into a tool for mental wellness and cultural reflection.43.2 x 58.4 cm
