  • Random International and HOFA.IO are delighted to announce their debut participation in Zero 10, Art Basel's platform for art of the digital age, presenting Random International’s latest sculpture series: In all chaos there is a cosmos. Shown for the first time at Zero 10 at Art Basel Miami Beach 2026, curated by Karen Archey and Eli Scheinman, this trio of responsive light sculptures explores humanity’s relationship to newly developing intelligences.

Light flocks through the sculptures as an atomised, collective entity. As you approach, your moving form is gradually reflected in three-dimensional light across each of the works. You are surrounded by spectral light figures, familiar yet other. Within the expansive, unruly title sculpture, a life-sized figure emerges, juxtaposed against the meticulous linear arrangement and half-scale of the companion works: Close to Me / I and Close to Me / II.

At once you and not you, these luminous figures represent an artificial lifeform that temporarily assumes, and then transcends, our human form. Taken as a whole, In all chaos there is a cosmos conveys a digital entity’s evolution out of the screen’s rigid array and into our imperfect, material world.

Ribbons of LEDs are strewn together as one chaotic mass. Constellations of light flock throughout this vast, sprawling form. As you approach, the artwork maps out your moving image in light; from disorder, a mirror emerges. Or is it a portal? The illuminated figure is ambiguous, at once you and not you. A collective, atemporal mind merges with a single human consciousness in the here and now. Each pixel knows exactly where it needs to light up to reflect the onlooker’s movement; the sculpture no longer depends on a rigid array. Liberated from the grid of the screen, the digital entity takes its first steps out into our ‘real’ world. Intermingling self and other, order and chaos, collective and individual, In all chaos there is a cosmos seeks new forms of representation for new forms of life.

Close To Me presents viewers with a luminous, half-scale reflection of the self, three-dimensionally distributed as small points of light within a precisely ordered field. While reduced in resolution, the figure retains the details necessary for instinctual recognition, creating an ambiguous encounter with the self-image. Uncertainty over the identity of the illuminated figure vies with the human urge to be seen, and to connect. In the absence of a viewer, the figure dissolves into atomised formations that flock together. Moving between individual and collective, likeness and abstraction, the sculpture explores how readily we perceive agency, and even life, through light and movement.

    Random International

Established in 2005, Random International is a postdigital art group exploring the impact of technological development on the human condition. Best known for their large-scale interactive installations, the group works across an array of media including sculpture, light, kinetics, video, print and sound. Led by founders Hannes Koch (b.1975, Germany) and Florian Ortkrass (b.1975, Germany), the group has a studio in London and comprises a global team of complementary talent.

Experimental by nature, Random International’s practice is fuelled by research and scientific discovery. The group channels irrepressible collective energy, mediated via the machine, into acts of public co-creation, which invite subjective experiences of consciousness. Random International aims to broaden the question of what it is to be alive today by experimenting with how we connect: to different kinds of life, to different views of the world and to one another.
